"Remembering My Mothers" by Jerena Tobiasen, from the Mother's Day Gifted Words Anthology

Remembering my Mothers

My life began with one mom,

The centre of my life,

The one who nurtured, fed and clothed me.

Others became mother-like

As I matured with need.

Their influences nurtured my ego, guided me.

Mother influences came and went

As time passed and needs changed.

Although brief in passing, they nurtured me.

One by one the mothers departed,

As age overtook them and me,

Until even my mom left me.

I see her out the corner of my eye.

I hear her voice, her laugh.

I see things I want to share, to nurture her.

But mom is gone, replaced by,

Sister-like friends who stand in her shoes,

They’ve become the mothers who guide me.

I remember my mom with love,

And all the mothers who have guided,

And continue to guide, me.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO EACH OF YOU!
