Like a Bird
I craved unconditional love,
With a heart full of conditions,
Scavenging through heartbreak,
Like a monster in human guise.
Yes, a little giant with a bass
voice,
That never spoke his mind,
And sometimes soft-spoken words,
With a heart of stone,
But I left the memory,
On my teen-life wardrobe,
Between the forgotten sheets,
And the blanket covers.
I was lost in proving myself,
To everyone but my own soul,
Seeking needless attention,
To fill a gratified heart,
So I became a bird,
Amusing and festive like a smiling
doll,
Carrying rim-petaled dreams,
That glowed in my mother's eyes.
I broke free from depression's
grasp,
Refusing to romanticize its pain,
And pushed myself back to reality,
Never succumbing to self-pity.
